A few days ago I wrote a post on facebook that went like this:
Tonight's new moon energy is about the power of the new paradigm seeping into our consciousness. In the new paradigm self-love heightens our vibrations so that one-love is truly possible. Abundance is real. Love is real. The light is pouring down upon us!
I got to thinking about it afterward and realized that what I meant, and mean, by Love is not fruity and hedonistic, not your typical consumerist or Hallmark syndicated version. The Love I speak of is a cosmic Love encountered on one's soul journey. Words I associate with this Love are respect, surrender, reverence, agony, ecstasy, and joy. Respect is respect for the self, for the desires of the self in soul growth, for the living of one's life in total surrender to the cosmic journey. Reverence is the bowing of one's heart to the awesomeness and largess of a divine intelligence within us. Agony and ecstasy, joy and pain, they are the mutual flowerings of the human condition, they are the elixir of embodied Love, they are the fruits of inner mountain climbing.
The opening lines of the Mathnavi, a six volume work of quatrains spoken while whirling by Hazreti Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi, say "Listen to the reed, how it tells a tale, complaining of separations- Saying 'Ever since I was parted from the reed-bed, my lament hath caused man woman to moan. I want a bosom torn by severance, that I may unfold to such a one the pain of love-desire." Later, in the prologue to Book II, Rumi says, "Someone asked, What is Love?" God answered, "You will know when you loose yourself in me."
The Mevlevi path is an ecstatic path; it is a path of longing, it is a path of Love unified in the earth plane through the whirling action of the human. In other traditions, such a Taoism, Love is heaven and earth united in conscious surrender of the self. In my own experience, love can have a hard edge, it can demand of us a course of action we really don't wish to take, it can grow us up into beautiful roses, more beautiful because of the thorns which pierce our feet upon the walk. When is suffering a joy? When the joy is deep and deeper than all of human suffering. This is Nirvana. This is my bliss. And oh how sweet it is!!!
As a woman, I embody cosmic Love cyclically. Female shamans differ from Male shamans in this respect. We follow the healing energies of compassion and nurturance as we care for our bodies through their many phases, as we raise up the souls of children, as we ground the cosmic forces through our breasts, our thighs, our wombs. While we can be severe, strong, and assertive, our healing energies come from the feminine face of Love.
When I feel and know that every detail of my existence, and all existence in the many universes, is utterly important to the moment at hand, I then know that I am Loved. From Love comes confidence. Flowers and wine perfume the soul, they flow outward in a river of life, and it is such a joy for the rose to open! A joy difficult to describe, a joy reflected in the life when we allow its permeation.
Hafiz, a Sufi poet claimed as saint across the worlds religions, writes:
The birds' favorite songs
You do not hear.
For their most flamboyant music takes place
When their wings are stretched
Above the trees
...And they are smoking the opium
of pure freedom.
It is healthy for the prisoner
To have faith
That one day he will again move about
Wherever he wants,
Feel the wondrous gift of life-
Less structured,
Find all wounds, debts stamped canceled,
Paid.
I once asked a bird,
"How is it that you fly in this gravity
Of darkness?"
She responded,
"Love lifts
Me."
Abundance is real. Love is real. The light is pouring down upon us! Let us open our hearts to love ourselves, so that we may be healed and love each other. Peace~
