I recently read the writings of a friend and five words stand out clearly from that reading, "the sequined majesty of flight".
Yesterday as I lay cloud gazing great birds of flight appeared to me again and again and again. Great freedom, great expanse, and many many hearts as well. HUGE hearts in the negative spaces - blue loves behind masses of dust and water vapor.
As a method of divination cloud gazing is quite popular, especially among children. When I am wanting to see the spirit of a landscape, the qualities of a region, I look to the plants and to the skies to speak to me. Clouds, in their changeability and freedom, reflect freely the energetics of the earth. And as I am the earth, the meadows which I lay upon my home, I look to clouds for information about the matrix of self in the land as well. Birds, dragons, flight, love which transcends, these are current themes. There is much comfort and grace and inspiration when such a display, over hours and hours, repeatedly unfolding, penetrates the soul. In my dreams as well, there are many eagles soaring in blue blue blue skies. And eagles, crows, hawks, doves, showing themselves to me in my daily walkabouts. Singing to me, through me, leaving me their feathers. Caw caw caw!

Such has been my recent experience with Ayahuasca as well. Visions of flight, beauty, intricate sequined majesty. The upper dimensions which I have been walking in while on the medicine are full of temples in the clouds, dance like flight, golds and yellows and pinks against the clear blue of eternity. The spaces are endless, always a new vastness in the realm of spiritwalking. Many forms of structure, many ways to dance, many feelings of flight, many wonderful inhabitants who fly along with me, who dance with me and teach me to dance and to sing as if I myself were made of sequins upon water, reflecting the brilliance of the stars. And I suppose I am just that, sequins upon water, the moon surrendering herself to the glory of the sun.
In a recent choreography I included a program note which also speaks of the majesty of flight. The piece, which is about the inner journey of five dancers during the period of my Mevlevi training, initially included many images of birds, reedbeds, goddesses among the reedbeds, the flight of human friendship and interaction when in transformative spaces. While these images remained central to the final production, the flight of the soul through universes and galaxies, images of the sea, and movements of both joy and surrender wove into the evening. Flight among the skies, among the sequined stars, tumbling of the sparkly jewel of the heart within the cosmic ocean, these form a majesty worthy of dancing about. Here is the first of the program notes:
“There is a certain Love
that is formed out of the
elixir of the East.
There is a certain cloud,
impregnated with a
thousand lightnings.
There is my body,
in it an ocean formed of his glory,
all the creation, all the universes,
all the galaxies, are lost in it.”
